Question Need better gas milage??

I have a 97 Expedition XLT with a 4.6 getting around 13 miles to the gallon. Is there any suggestion on getting better mileage. Vehicle is stock and has 66,000 miles on it.

Driving it downhill, but pushing it uphill should do the trick.

That's pretty good fuel mileage for an Expedition. My 2002 with a 5.4 gets around 12 city and 16 highway. You can try the little things, like checking the air filter for dirtiness, making sure tire air pressures are equal and to spec. Other than that, you're not going to get much more MPG's, in my opinion. I drive mine on a daily basis 60 miles roundtrip to and from work. I'm filling up the tank every 5-6 days. I'd love to get a little 4-cyl beater car, but it'd never be able to do what I need the Expedition for. Good luck in your decision!

Very low miles for a '97! Get a 4 banger and use the Expy when needed.

Change your driving style. Drive the speed limit or less. Anticipate stops, shift into neutral and coast to the stop sign or light. Coast down long hills when traffic permits. Don't hard accelerate when going up hill. Turn engine off at long red lights.
I have a 1999 and get 18 +. Recently got 18.3 from Phoenix to Fort Worth with a good sized LOAD

i have to agree with changing your driving style.. but there are some basic investments that will help. air intake kits from airaid or K&N, and maybe an exhaust system should give you a few more mpg and higher horsepower. you could also chip it with with a programmer that always helps even when stock. also try keeping things out of your truck; take out the third row seats, and second row if you don't use them, take of the roof rack to increase aerodynamics, an electric fan instead of a pully driven one, reduces rpm usage and redirects it to power, ultimatly one could drop in a new tranny to get a better gear ratio, keepign rpms down at high speed, resulting in better mpg

thats the knows mpg raisesers noe of the fuel catalys run on water crazyness that hasent been proven.

yet converting to ethanol would work...
personally i want to drop in a powerstroke diesel and convert that to biodiesel.
