Why Bilsteins for 2WD?

I have read numerous posts about shocks and wonder how Biltsteins will ride on a 2003 2WD EB that rarely goes off the pavement. Would they be too rough or stiff for freeway/highway or are they really just the ultimate regardless? Why not Monroe or others that are a little more reasonably priced?

Thanks for the input -

I always buy the best - and have no probem paying the price, I just don't want it to ride like a dump truck! That was the reason for the question.

The Biltsteins will give you a stiffer ride. If you want to keep the softer ride then go with a set of Monroes.

i drive a 04 2wd
and i have been looking at the biltsteins, the foxs and rancho beacaus they can be set up to give a little lift.
the biltsteins are my first choice but the Rancho use the adjustable remote control so you can set the stiffness of your shocks.
expensive though.

ps: aren't monroes used as oe replacements??

Although I am going with the Ranchos on our 98 XLT 2WD because of previous experience with them being great on an aerostar, rockautoparts dot com is offering the ride control consisting of the controller, pump, lines and hardware for free with purchase of 4 $90 each shocks.

At 45k miles i puton ranchos... terrible, stock was better. I dont remember the model, but they were top of the line ranchos. at 65k miles i put on bilsteins. THE BEST PERIOD. not very stiff, handles sooo much better than stock,,, i highly recommend, worth every penny. bilsteins and a rear sway bar and its a totally different truck.

You are perfectly entitled to your opinion, be it as it may, from my own experience the Rancho RS5000 made the difference in my uncontrollable Aerostar and they were $140 less for the set and had free shipping from Amazon.
Enjoy your Bilsteins as many people do, Made in USA still means a little something to me

These are all good answers -

I am still not convinced I need new shocks @ 80K miles as my Expy rides and handles just fine. But thanks to all of you for repondong to this thread.

Bilsteins

no luck here with Bilsteins..both fronts were leaking oil after 17K, and the truck had never been off road.

Shocks like any suspension part, the wear is subjective to lots of things. But the Bilstiens do improve the ride, they aren't very stiff, the do reduce some of the body sway these trucks tend to have. So they may last you for a 100,000 miles or as little as previously mentioned.
