talking with one of the homes co-ordinators today who's a nissan fanatic says that they're(nissan) going to be putting a diesel in their trucks late '09. no suprise, but the suprise was in the word that dodge is dropping cummins and going to buy into the nissan diesel engine... anyone else hear word of this??

Nope, what I've heard is that Nissan is going to drop the full size Titan, because of extremely poor sales and start using a re-badged Dodge full size pickup.
This article says they won't be re-badged, but I've others say, that essentially they will be re-badged with trim item differences. I guess you say potato, I say potatoe...kind of deal.
Currently Sterling trucks also have a new medium duty, which is a re-badged, different grilled Dodge 4500/5500. Saw one in the Bismarck, North Dakota area a week or so ago.
Here's another rebadging deal. This time Nissan is doing the building...for fellow Japanese manufacturer, Suzuki. The new Suzuki truck, will be in actuality...drum roll, please...a Nissan.
Heavy competition, cut throat prices are making strange bedfellows of a lot of different makers.
For example the small Chevy car is made by the Korean factory Dae Woo, which GM bought awhile ago. Some call them the Chev-woo-lay.
My neighbour used to have an old Toyota pickup, mounted on an International Scout frame 4 WD, powered by a Chevy 350 V8. Quite nice.
I called it the Toy -let.
We (wife) have a Pontiac Vibe, that is essentially a Toyota Matrix with Toyota Corolla everything, when it comes to parts. I call this combo....my wife's car !!
Dodge is in really huge financial trouble. I dont think it would be a smart move on their part to drop the cummins in their medium duty trucks, thats about the only reason people buy them!
Well the thing is Dodge is doing to their trucks what Ford did with the Taurus. They are dumping their prices to companies that buy a large quantity. Right now United Rentals has a complete Frd line for trucks 3 ton and under but from now on all new small size trucks are going to be Dodge, the price is simply lower, alot lower.
I wonder if ford will end up losing some of its sales due to that. Sadly, when ordered in large quantities, price usually over rides quality.
they may lose some, but in a year or two they'll be bombarded with orders when the fleet buyers realize they are much better off paying up front to get a better deal in the long run...

Dodge dumping their prices to companies? Mebbe only in Canada.
Here in LA LA Land, anyone can buy a 2008 Ram Quad Cab Big Horn Edition HEMI for 15 grand (MSRP is over 31K), and a V6 Quad Cab for 13K (MSRP is 27K).
Ads like this have been running for over a year in the LA Times, Orange County Register, and every other paper in SoCal.
Dodge is not dumping Cummins...that's a lotta CACA del TORO.
I wouldn't touch anything made by ChryCo right now...because the company is (according to all the web blogs)...very close to declaring bankruptcy.
If that happens, you can kiss the Life-Time Warranty, and all the other sales gimmicks ChryCo has been using to entice buyers = goodbye!
Nissan is not dropping the Titan, they are going to have Dodge build the next generation version, with Titan's current powertrain, and with a CUMMINS option.
The new Titan will have a unique sheet metal skin mimicing the current design, so it will not be just badge engineering.
Nissan in turn, is building a new economy car for ChryCo. Speculation is...that Nissan may end up buying Dodge if ChryCo goes belly up.
btw: I coulda bought one a those Dodge Rams for peanuts, but their resale value has hit rock bottom...even worse than the Titans is.
Nissan wasn't doing so well itself a number of years ago and Renault of France bought them. Under Renault (Carlos Ghosn) Nisssan has done better, brought out better products, etc. As far as I know Renault is still calling the shots.
