almost a general carb question i guess... is there any way to figure out what the air/fuel ratio is to compare it with the chart in the edelbrock owners manual??
another thing... great idle, ***** when kicked down 3/4 throttle, stall when floored, and shudder when lightly accelerating... any hints?? i've ordered the tuning kit from edelbrock, as well as a new ignition coil just in case the old one was getting weak...
An A/F meter is about the only accurate way. You can get a decent one for ~$200. For that you might consider spending a bit more and dyno tune. And a vacuum gauge in the cab can help you figure out which springs will work best.
Are you getting any surging at cruise? It sounds like you might be running a bit lean. You could try cranking the mixture screws out 4 or 5 turns to see if it fixes the shudder at part throttle - it won't idle but it should help the cruise if it's lean. If it works, reset the idle mixture and go with a richer set of rods for starters.
Where is your timing set? How much total advance and where is it all in?
thanks jimmy, i actually found a post where you had suggested that before. i did that on sunday and it cured my off-the-line problem. swapped my plugs today for something a little hotter, got an MSD ignition coil to put on tomorrow... might still check the timing, something isn't right with the part throttle calibration...
