Hey, I just rebuilt my 300 I-6 after I cracked the head Its in a 1976 F-250 and I didn't do much special to it when I did the work but after the engine was dropped back into the truck and and started having problems I started talking to the previous owner and he said that the engine was out of a mid 80's ford Im pritty good with these trucks but Im at a loss, I put an RV Cam in it for a 76 and it misteriously burnt out two manual fuel pumps I got it running for about 2 weeks and I was driving into town and it starting starving for gas and died but then it started right back up and it idoled fine but you couldent drive it it would starve for gas, once it cooled down you could drive it another 5 miles, I changed all Fuel Filters, Flushed the tank, it has a fairly new carb on it, I wonder if its not the new Cam, Hope you can Help me out
when i took the fuel pump out i looked at it and there was nothing cracked or damaged, it wasn't hardly in there long enough to wear the coating off of the arm, at first i thought it was just a bad fuel pump but the next one did the same thing... as for the fuel lines I took my tank out and flushed it about 6 times to get any gunk that might have been in there and before i ran any gas through it i blew them out with the air hose along with the tank switch valve.
yea, that's what I thought but if the coil was getting hot it wouldn't start right back up you would have to wait for it to cool off before you started it. it doesn't have a problem starting and its just when you get up to speed it cuts out like either its not getting the fuel or the spark, one of the two, and it has a brand new distributer, cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires, and the gap on the plugs is right too. i'm just at a loss. I don't know what to do next.
