Stupid question where can i get a slide hammer that will clamp onto studs for pulling dents?

I have a dent to pull in the rear corner of my truck bed i have studs and a mig welder...i just need a slide hammer that can grab the studs... The stud welders come with the hammer I need however i can't find it anywhere...

Check with Eastwood, they carry the studwelder kits, but I'm not sure if they list the components seperately or only with the kit.

They have several different ones at sjdiscounttools.com. It might be sjdiscountools.com.

I'm surprised that your stud welder did not come with one.

Good luck,

Stud welder??? Ya right if i had the money to buy one i could get a Mig welder instead. I'd use a stud welder once in a while but could use a mig all of the time. I don't mind the work of tacking studs on the old fashioned way...

hey duke,
i bought a slide hammer from harbor freight tools. i think it cost me around $20.
over the years i have fabricated various attachments for the tool. for different applications. an it works really well. if you use it right. granted some of there tools
are a waste of time and money and some aren't.
or you can go to sears craftsman,snap-on tools, mac tools, matco tools, cornwell tools,
cummins tools. but to pull a dent out of a peice of tin, harbor freight tools is probably the cheapest.

Okay, again I didn't thoroughly read a post, but I'm still not clear on this one.

If you have a MIG welder, simply weld the edge of a washer and use a cheap slide hammer with a hook on the end to grab the washer. I bought a Performance Tool Slide Hammer with lots of attachments for $15.

Since you said you had studs I assumed that you have a stud welder.

Never thought of that Doc. I like the stud idea, however the washer idea would also work the same way. The hammers i've been finding do have some nice looking attachments for other uses. Thanks for the advice i'll probably end up getting a better, more useful, hammer from the advice i got here...

Thanks guys.

I welded a nut to the end of a pair of vise grips( on the adjusting screw ) and just screw my small dent puller to that--then clamp it on the pins.....loaned my pin puller to a "friend" and it came back broke...

I was thinking maybe i'd weld a nail to the dent and then weld the washer to that so i get more of a point pull. I thought about grinding down some all thread and then using a nut, attached to the puller, to then weld the all thread to the dent. Not sure what i will do but i do have a lot of ideas now...

The dent i have in mind is on the rear corner panel from the bumper being pushed in. The dent is very tight, so i need to get in there with something thin. I'll post some pictures when i get to it this week.

A nail would be pretty soft. I don't know about how well it would weld into place. One of the things you must consider is that whatever you weld in place, you must be able to do it with absolute minimum heat for minimum time. Otherwise you stand more chance of warping the panel.

With a washer, you can put a quick MIG tack on each side of the edge with several seconds between the two for less heat soaked into the panel.

My $0.02,
