modifying an external balance flex plate for an internal balance 460. . .
Basically, I used a 460 Lincoln motor that was already ready for a rebuild than my 460 truck block out of my 87 (needed a crank). I have the external balance flex plate (C6) which is in fantastic condition and I want to be able to reuse it on the internal balance motor. . .I'm cheap, I can't help it
I want to know, can I remove the balance weight from the flex plate and use it then? Being careful, say if I have to dill, to drill an equal number of holes on the opposite side?
Just don't do what I did. There was some confusion when I was ordering and replacing a flywheel in my vehicle. It ended up being the wrong flywheel and there was a horrible drivetrain vibration at speeds, ended up having to remove the flywheel again then taking to a machine shop where they were able to balance the new flywheel to match the balance of the original. If you have any suspicions, spend the $$ to have the flexplate balance checked.
