Hello,
I have recently crashed my 3 month old F-350 Diesel Crew Cab FX4 4x4
The insurance adjuster's value for repairs on this $47,300.00 truck is way off in comparison to the Ford Dealership Collision Centers value.
I am being told, by both, that the 2008 database is not updated to figure the accurate value for such repairs on this 2008 year and model. WHAT???
I was traveling at 30-35 mph as I hit a sheet of black ice. The rear end spun out to the right and as the truck went 180 degrees against a big ole pine tree, the impact catapolted the rear wheel/axle against a stone wall.
NO ONE WAS HURT! As I had my daughter sitting in the front passanger seat.
I am looking to see if there is any collision experts out there who can look at the pictures at the link provided below:
wow it seem like you did a number on your new truck. i see this a lot for i work at a body shop and i finished a job up just like yours ...in your case it will probley go totaled for the fact that after you hit 70% of the value thats when they total them in less you have allstate or state farm like to fix anything that is still new ...and for that high price are they putting a new frame on or somthing or a new cab
It has NOT been totaled at this point as BOTH Adjusters are unable to value the damages due to lack of information for the 2008 year and perhaps model etc......
This is why I am looking for help from a collision expert to offer assistance!
The fact that the dash is so folded up leading one to believe that the firewall is significantly damaged is leading me to believe that when it comes down to it your vehicle is totalled. Generally in a collision as long as the firewall is straight the rest of the vehicle can and has been rebuilt around it. As long as the measurements can be based on the firewall. Because of the apparent damage, no measurements can be exact leading me to believe it's totalled.
Judging by the photos, the only thing that's honestly good left is the frame and suspension, I doubt the insurance company is going to put a new cab on it simply because by the time everything gets changed over from one to the other the labor alone is going to surpass the value of the vehicle. Get ready for a new truck and I'm glad to hear everyone was ok.
I have seen new trucks with worse damage that were not totalled. You have to remember, you can spend up to $30,000 fixing it and still not be over 75%. It will be pricy though, that is the WORST spot to try and fix. Not only are the adjusters right in the fact that the data is not fully out yet, but also you are not gonna get it fixed anytime soon either. The "data" they are refering to is the price of the replacement parts. Major reconstruction parts like you will need are still in the early stages of rollout so as soon as there are parts, they will have thier data and you will get a straight answer. In the meantime, I hope you are not in a rush.................
Ford has the current numbers because, well, they're Ford and you'll often find that those numbers don't trickle down 3 months after the truck was made to insurance companies. You're not supposed to total a new truck you know
Glad no one was injured, you're right that's the most important thing.
Considering the sticker price of the truck (F350, diesel, etc) there's a lot of dollars that could be spent to return the truck whole. Best I can tell 75% - 80% seems to be what is used by my insurance company.
If Ford gave your insurance company a price to fix the truck, their best bet might be to go with those dollars and have Ford repair the truck. It's a new truck and you probably don't want any substitutions even for minor things. This way Ford made, Ford warranties it, Ford fixes it, and Ford still warrantees it.
I personally would try to leverage the insurance company to give up and total it, and get a new one. In 1993 I "nearly totaled" a Lincoln I had bought a week earlier and the insurance company wanted to replace everything except the spare tire. Um, no thank you. Took a lot of arguing and heated discussions but the end result was they kept that one and I picked a new one off the lot. My insurance company might have been more agreeable because that particular accident wasn't my fault as a large dump truck switched into the slow lane I was in without looking, and I got pinched between the dump truck's tires and the cement divider on the right, so they ultimately had someone to chase for the dollars.
With the pine three thing in your case, it goes on your collision solely so they'll want to repair the truck if it's cheaper than replacing it.
Nationwide Insurance Co. the "we're on your side" insurance co. proved to me this morning that they are on my side and have declared the 2008 F-350 as TOTALED.
Their check + the GAP insurance check paid 100% replacement (less my deductable)
and I will be picking up my new 2008 F-350 crew cab Diesel FX4 on Friday. This one has ALL the same options as previous + the satallite radio + running boards + heated leather seats + tail gate ladder/step
Thanks ACTION4478 and all of you for the well wishes offered in your replies!

Matt
PS Buy the GAP insurance it saved my ***
THAT kicks a$$
i tried to get gap insurance with Geico a few years ago and they told me it's up to whomever financed the truck....guess that's their view on it. Glad NationWide took care of you.
my truck is paid off now, so it doesn't mean jack.....I'd get $7k if i wrecked my 2001....IF i was real lucky.
Yeah accidents suck, two weeks ago i let my best friend borrow my truck to bring his girlfriend home about 5 miles, well he didn't quite make it couldn't handle the F-350's power on ice needless to say i'm never letting anyone else drive my truck.
Just a side note to an earlier comment. Measurements on a vehicle are taken from many points now, and there are some very sophisticated measuring systems out there. The firewall being bent would not alone total the vehicle, or prevent very accurate measurements from being made. As mentioned, once the cost hits a certain level (and this varies from company to company) they will write it off as a loss, and sell it at the auctions. In some states, someone would put a section in this truck and put it back on the road. You just keep cutting till ya get to a straight piece !

I would, but would not accept such a repair if I bought the truck new. Donor trucks are still rare in salvage auctions, but it's a fair bet that one will be back on the road one day. If it were mine I'd ask how high the insurance company "buy back" was and see if I could intercept it before it went to auction.
