I just sold a 64 F250 with 8 lug 17.5's. I was wondering about them myself .? My 64 was a retired government truck. Was yours by any chance ? I still have the rims and was wondering if I should try to sell'um or junk'um. Not much help to you. But maybe someone can enlighten both of us.
Thanks for the reply. As I indicated, my truck was a F100 and as a result its 17.5" rims were only a 5-lug style. I haven't seen another truck - including a F250/8-lug truck - with them. I do recall that I had to look 'high & low' to locate a new 17.5" tire as they weren't easy to find.
As far as I know, my truck was NOT a retired government truck. Nor was it a commercial type truck (construction, Railroad, etc.) of any kind. It was a '63 F100, std cab, shortbox and when I bought it, it was equipped with a 223 6-cyl and a 4spd with a creeper gear.
Maybe Mr. "NumberDummy" can shed some light on this mystery.......?
The set I have are stamped BUDD H 569 PT X 17.5 x 5.25. The spare is a like new "Gates Cargo" tire. Would this be the same Gates that makes belts ? I know none of this is helping either one of us. Just cool to know stuff. Continental tires has a line of 17.5 commercial truck tires.
