86 Ranger. Got the 2.3 4 cyl out. The bell is seperated from the trans about 1 inch. The studs have pulled and or the nuts have backed off. I want to remove the Bell before dropping the tranny to make it easyer for this old man ta handle. So how do I disconect the hyd line from the master? It's got about an inch and a half sleave that I can get to turn but can't get it to go forward or back to release. If that is what it is supposed to do. There also seems to be presser in it as the pedal is up and will not go down. I think this is because the bell is an inch or so from the tranny and has it apliyed. Thanks
The sleave needs to be pushed in to release. Go to your local parts store and see if they carry the tool made for this very purpose, it will save you many head aches.
Thanks for the come back. The local parts store is a hundred miles away on mostly logging roads. So how do I do it with standerd shop tools. by pushed in do ya mean to the master as it comes in from the side. I simply need to move the sleave to the master to get it off correct? Thanks
Sorry, I did not realize your location. I'm assuming that this has the internal slave. The line from the master should come into the side of the slave. There should be a plastic sleave, which is what it sounds like you have, this sleave should be pushed into, towards, the slave or bell housing. It can be very hard to do especially if it is corroded at all. If you have a small flat screwdriver(pocket screwdriver), use it to push the sleave in, you will have to work your way around the sleave. Soaking the whole assembly with penetrating oil will help. Just be aware that you may easily damage the sleave.
Ok we couldn't get it off the master do to corrosion and a dent in the sleave. The slave line goes in the top of the bell but as the bell is loose and almost off. It looks like I can just pull the bell off over the throw out and shaft and the slave will stay there. Giving me more room to remove it or pull it clear of the trans. Will this work? will the bell clear the Throw out brg?
It does. So I'll give that a try in the AM. Thanks a bunch. And will keep ya posted. Plan on doing a Cab an engine swap from the 87 (not 86) to a carbed 84 so I'm sure there is gonna be plenty to keep us all buzy.
Alaska nice!!!
Whatever you do just watch you surrounds for Grizzly bears
I love hunting big game and Alaska is any hunters dream , do you hunt or fish for huge Pacific halibut or Salmon? sorry I'm
Yes my freind. I hunt, fish, kill and eat. Generaly get one or two bucks out the living room window every year. Got 4 boats so have all the fishing covered. Come on up in july for salmon and august for everyting. No Grizz here. But the world record blackie came from here. We don't eat bear so I leave them alone. Halibut year round as well as Salmon. And anything bigger than a mud puddle has trout. And even some of the puddles. Kids went out last evening and caught a dozon cuts in an hour off the road at neck lake from 12 to over 24 inches. Over the 4th of July the Silvers are so thick in the bay ya can most near walk across them. Ya we fish and hunt.

Ok, so you're not in grizz country or like the bears you find in Kodiak island, those are not teddy bears!
Ya we fish and hunt.
I like to fish in the ocean most of times, I hunted Elk in Colo back in 1989 with a 7mm Rem Mag homemade reloads, I still have this rifle, not hunting much now it's just too expensive and too many private properties, here in California wild pig open ol year but very expensive starting at $500, I rather save some $$ and go to Texas or Tenesee for big Russian boars
