What should I use to spray the undercarriage of my truck? (frame, floorboards, rear end housing etc.) Ive tried undercoating before, but its way to sloppy and oily looking for me. Id prefer something in a rattle can that i can get locally at a hardware or autoparts store. Would just plain old black spray paint, black rustoleum or soemthing of that kind work fine? Thanks
1st search for undercarriage and i think you will see a plethora of posts/info.
there are a lot of options but...after you clean it really well I'd darn sure treat it with ospho or, better yet, metal ready from por...it's zinc oxide which is considered superior by most experts (chemists) i've heard from. the acid in the others will kill rust and convert while the zink does that plus adds zinc which mediates the electrical current required to support rust.
after that theres a ton of options and I like all of the products that cure or harden with moisture. POR products discolor in a substantial way (my experience) from sunlight- but stays tough while the easton product is less expensive and maybe better. Then a lot of folks use the quart cans of rustoleum- i never use rattle cans myself but some do.
I use black spray paint on my undercarriages. It's inexpensive and easy to work with. The only problem is that it does need to be touched up every couple of years.
