OK so I seriously am going to buy my truck soon! Any final dealer tips???
Ok so no more messing around I researched till I can research no more! I'm ready, I know where my perfect truck is and all my duck will be in a row at the end of the week or early next week and I'm going in and going to work!
So my baby is about $37,250 (X-plan), less the $3,000 cash back comes to $34,250. I got to do a little better than that! So here are my plan:
1) Tell them my other dealer will still give me the X-plan rebate. And I was just about to buy but figured I would check here first, will you do it?
2) If they agree to that, tell them I will sign the paper work if there is an automatic starter in it when I'm ready to pick it up.
So that's my plan, do ya think I have a good chance?...FLU
Good luck to you!!
I have been trying to buy a new truck for about 3 weeks now. Every time I get close to buying or ordering a new truck they come up with something different or change the deal. I QUIT!!! It is no wonder that Ford is 12 billion dollars in the whole. I don't think they have any dealers (at least in my area) that want to sell a truck. I know I'm venting a little bit but I truly wish you the best of luck on your purchase, I hope you have better luck than I have.
In my area all the remaining 06's were gone months ago. I had to buy a demo to get an 06 leftover. Just remember when dickering with a dealership, the only thing that matters is weather or not you are comfortable with the price. Also it never hurts to get two dealerships dickering back and forth for your business. It also never hurts to leave and say you are going to think about it. Thats what I did and I planned on calling them later that day because I was satisfied with deal, then the phone rings and it is the salesman saying they would give me 500 more for my trade.
Watch out for the Doc Fee (Document). This is a scam by dealers to make a "little extra money."
It won't be discussed during negotiations, but it will be on the contract. The amount varies, and some states have a cap, but here in CA it can be as high as $2,000.00 !!
Here's what a Doc Fee is. The dealer charges you, the purchaser...extra money to have their employee type up the paperwork !! (No scheiss!!)
Many people just sign the contract without questioning what a Doc Fee is, or what it does. The dealer will also make excuses as to what it is. I've personally heard: Bank gets the money; It's a FoMoCo acquistion fee; It's a DMV fee.
All lies.
Some have said a $100.00 charge is ok. Both CR and Edmunds say...don't pay it.
It's up to you...Negotiate hard. The last dealer that pulled this crappola was told by me..."take it off, or I walk!"
They took it off.
-------------------------- WHAT the heck are you paying 34 grand for? It better be a Super Duty for that price. Here in Los Angeles, a F150 can be bought for 10 grand back of MSRP, and the lots are full of them. Forget the A or X plan...do some more research on what the invoice price is...and then knock off a couple of grand from that. Buying an '06 will save you money..but remember, it's a year old truck! Go to carsdirect.com or cars.com to see the actual invoice price. But...remember...no dealer pays that invoice price...no one.

Yo Number dummy, it's an 07 Black/Black Lariat 4x4 supercrew, chrome package, pretty much loaded with everything but Navi. Invoice price is like $37,500, and your saying I should haggle to get it like a thousand or more lower than X-plan price even huh? I would like to hear more on this. Thanks bro...

I just got my 06 FX4 screw Monday. There were enough left to choose from that I found a real beauty, and they were eager to sell it. I like the previous advice about looking around for a comparable 06. You should be able to find one. Got em down further than I thought I could. My first brand new full size truck. I love this thing.
also look for a prep fee.i wanted mud flaps on my truck they said ok then when i took delivery there was a 50.00 prep fee for cleaning and waxing the truck.what is that, there going to sell me a brand new truck dirty.i said i will clean it myself thanks for nothing.they where trying to get they flaps money from me.
Things to bring up at dealer:
Say my other dealer says he will still give me the $500 x-plan rebate and some student discount, or a $750 internet coupon. If any of this flies it could drop me to $28,500-$29,000>>
Then I will say I will not pay more than $27,500 out the door, so work whatever you can do to get it lower. Tell him some options could be: obviously more rebates as stated above, work the trade in number higher, cut out some of the dealer hold back/dealer profit.(realistically I will pay $28,000 or so out the door)
Tell me what you think bros, and add any comments...Thanks
Don't figure your taxes into your plan of attack. Looks like you're willing to pay 27k so stick with that number (or a little less) and then they'll add the taxes on later. Remember sometimes the cash back isn't the way to go because of lower interest rates offered with no cash back. Really go after the trade in value because that will lower the sales tax as well. So if they up the price of the truck then up the amount of your trade. You really should go to multiple dealerships so then you can say bob at so and so said he'd give me this deal and pitting 2 or even more dealerships against each other is always a good idea
Keep it simple and straight forward and review ALL the paperwork before signing anything to make sure they’re not jacking you on other costs.
Tell them you want the truck for $600 under invoice in addition to getting all the current rebates. If you have a business license, you’ll quality for an additional $300 discount on top of the $3,000 discount for 2007 models. If you’re buying a FX4 and are getting the captains chairs with the Luxury package, I believe there’s an additional $695 MSRP discount with this package. If you get the Sirius satellite radio, then you quality for another $495 discount from MSRP. Depending on the truck and options chosen, you’ll hopefully be getting close to $7.5K off of MSRP with the current incentives. If you’re getting ~$8K+ off of MSRP on a 2007 F150 SuperCrew, then you’re doing pretty darn good in my opinion. The incentives ‘usually’ get better as the year goes on, but there are no guarantees.
You’ll get a larger discount on the 2006 models, but the invoice price on the 2006 F150’s is significantly higher than on 2007’s (an additional ~$1,400 from what I recall). You should be able to get around ~$10K+ off regular and supercab 2006 F150’s with the current $5,500 incentives if you play your cards right, but don’t forget the 2006’s had a higher invoice price to begin with and they’re a year older. The 2008’s are going into production soon.
Well right now I'm at about $350 under X-plan for my price. But I'm not happy with what they offered me for my trade, about $1300 or so less than what I wanted for it. And CarMax is even lower on what they offered me. Maybe I just had higher hopes for my trade, but on the Ford estimater it gave me a quote of $5200-6800 and my car is in pretty damn good shape. They came at me with 5K at first and I got em up a couple hundred, but still not happy. I need to work something better tomorrow hopefully.
The used car market is quite depressed, due to all the manufacturers having to drop their selling prices over the past few years. Its not going to get better soon.
