intake riser

I have a 2004 F250 6.8 6 Speed. Do not tow, usually run empty (excessive, I know, but fun!). Truck runs great, gets better than average mileage (according to the polls in this forum), and I'm not tempted to make any major modifications. However, I keep seeing claims for increased power and mileage on the promos for intake manifold risers. The risers are cheap (typically <$100) and installation appears to be easy. In this world of >$2 (post mid-term elections, likely >$3) regular gas, it wouldn't take very much of an improvement to justify a ~$150 investment. Has anyone here had experience with installing one of these on a 6.8l without doing a host of related mods at the same time? Thx!

Scott aka samiller

I assume you are referring to the AirRaid or similar throttle body spacer...a 1 inch thick piece of aluminum with or with out some form of swirling to the intake air charge...

They are all snake oil..we don't have a carburator... the motor is direct injection and there is no use for spinning the intake air charge because there is no fuel to spin up and atomize in the intake plenum... it just causes extra turbulence and most of the time that is counter productive to what the engineers wanted...smooth laminar air flow equally distributed to each intake valve.

There are a few here that will swear they got more power or some extra MPG out of them...there are others that swear you can get them on e-bay for less then $10 delivered...

This product is the same category as fuel magnets, turbonators, battery catalysts, fuel catalysts, and slick 50...pure bunko snake oil over hyped BS products...

well i can't say there worth it, but you can either find a used one, or there was a user selling them as "factoy blems" with the starting bid at .99! i think his e-bay name is "TBBLEMS"!

paying $100 for one no, increase in mpg very little if any.
