Hello, I am on my second F250 SD, this one a V10 2001 4WD and just got a great deal on a set of Borla headers. But they did not come with the Y pipe (the headers were for a 1999 V10 which fit the 2000-2003 V10 but with a different Y pipe).
My question: where can I find such a Y pipe? I have done an extensive search on the net but no one seems to sell just the Y pipe. Has anyone else installed such a set of headers and then had to fabricate a Y pipe? I'm thinking of showing a muffler shop a picture of the Y pipe to see if they can make something similar up. Does anyone think this is possible to do with good results?
Looking forward to what you all think. I have learned an amazing amount about my two SDs on this forum. thanks
The Y pipe is exclusive to the Borla headers. Why the headers were forsale without it is whacked. You may try Borla to see if you can get one ($$) Otherwise you will have to have one made.
Thanks for the comments V10Man. I forgot to mention the circumstances of why the headers did not come with the y-pipe. This set of headers was for the 1999 V10. Even though the headers themselves for the 200-2003 are exactly the same, the Y-pipe changed from 99 to the 00-03 models.
I am not sure why the headers did not come without the y-pipe but I could not have used it anyways. I will contact Borla however and see what they say. According to their web site they do not sell these y-pipes individually but who knows - they might have a spare one sitting on the back shelf.
You CAN have a shop custom fabricate a set of "Y" pipes for you. A good shop will be able to do it. There is one local to me that has a mandrel bender and the guy fabricated my whole system from the manifolds back. An experienced bender can fabricate an exhaust with a piece of wire and angle finder. Take a look around. There has to be someone close to you that is capable.
Borla contacted me and said while they did not have the y-pipe on the shelf that they would fabricate one for me. It will take 3-4 weeks (I am dreading doing this anyway since I will be handling the header installation myself) and he did not indicate what the cost will be.
But I think this will be the best solution since it will come from Borla directly.
Thanks again. I will update when I finish the project. I have take quite a few tips on the installation of the Borla headers from this forum so I am well prepared. I am also going to leave the stock piping from the exhaust system and just run an Aero Turbine muffler (AT3030) instead of the stock muffler and top it off with a double-walled stainless steel chrome-finished tip. When it gets all finished I will have Borla headers with a custom exhaust system for about $500 (if the y-pipe costs around $100)
I suppose "super loud" is a relevant term and subject to interpretation. I have heard a sound clip of this muffler and it is, by far, the best sounding unit I have heard to date.
To be fair, a sound clip might not be the best way upon which to base a purchase, however, I do not have the means to try different mufflers and then end up with the one I like.
I will try the Aero and give it a shot. I am definitely not pleased with the stock unit; Gibson is a cheap imitation of the stock muffler; Borla is an expensive imitation of the stock muffler and I am just not impressed with some of the other favorites that V10 owners have run.
Thank you though for your thoughts. That is why this is one of my most visited sites in all of webdom!

Uliman, it sounds like you have a mission and a means to get it done. Good luck with the work and let us know how it turns out.
I have an extra borla y pipe available. It was on a 2002 V10 superduty 4x4 . It is used and in great condition. Stainless steel and never damaged. e mail me at the following and I will send you a pic. schwinnhunteratcomcastdotnet
Y pipe is sold... I offered the y pipe to the original person posting the inquiry and helped a fellow FTE member. I set a price of $40 plus shipping costs which I believe was more that fair so its a done deal and already sent. And no I didnt fleece anyone. Bill
