I spend most of my time in the Superduty forum, but I thought I'd bounce this one off of you:
My wife and I currently have a 21 month old daughter (in a car seat) and another child on the way. Anyways, does anyone here have 2 children that they put in carseats in their Rangers?
How does it work? How about for older kids? Is it a PIA? I'm just curious. I'm a firm believer in the Rangers and feel they are a fantastic truck with the heart of a Superduty.
My cousin tried that, not so good. he found it to be a PIA. it's better whent they hit like 3-10. after ten they are too big for the back. and younger, carseats dont work so good.
I'm not sure about a Ranger - in a full-size SC, the seats are faced inboard / heads against the sides of the cab. Will leave enough room for teen to sit between twins to keep them from kicking the other sister.
When my daughter was small enough for a car seat, it could only fit on the jump seat sideways in my 90 supercab ranger. That's if my wife was with me too. Otherwise I would mount it in the passenger seat. Not sure how good the protection would have been for her in an accident with it sideways like that. Some of the toddler car seats are larger now and they may not fit the jump seat of the ranger at all. You may need to take a car seat to the dealership and do a test fit on a ranger supercab and see if it will fit. Otherwise the kids will like the jump seats a lot when they're 5-8 or so and not having to sit in a big seat with a booster.
You might want to read the owners manual (available online) regarding usage of a kid seat on those rear fold downs. IIRC, they aren't intended for use with a kid seat.

I believe that is correct. I have never considered putting my kids in the back of mine, I dont see any way the seat would fit anyway, never mind the safety issue.
Thanks guys. I really appreciate it. Great replies. I'll have to take a good, long look at the Ranger to even contemplate putting my kids back there. So far, it doesn't sound like it'll work too well.
If you have the 60/40 split bench like I do, you can put a car seat in the middle of the bench (with the arm rest flipped up, of course) and have it straped in. Ive got a 3rd seatbelt up front. That way you, your child and wife can all ride up front.
I dont think it'd be a good idea to use the rear jump seats in a Ranger s-cab for baby car seats, but I do agree they are perfect for kids ages 3 and up. Id say if you are over 5ft 8in and/or about 150 lbs, sitting in the back is pretty rough(although we crammed 3 big 20-somethings back there when I was younger, )
when i had my '88 s/c we had a small car seat for my daughter in it, mounted sideways and held down with heavy-duty rubber tarp straps, now that she is 11 she still fits in the jump seat (now have a '93 s/c ) but she sometimes bangs her head on the back cab window. if we go on a long trip, she rides in the back (i have a cap ) we only have the 1 child, i made a toolbox to go behind the drivers seat. 2 kids might get on each others nerves back there. as always be carefull when youve got the kids with you.
