Heater Hose Valve
I took my 98 Ranger 4X4 to a different mechanic for the AC and he noticed the heater hoses going into the dash were very hot. This meant water is getting into the heater core, and the temp control is on cold.
The valve on top of the engine that controls the flow of water into the heater core was not moving when we moved the temp switch. He found there was no vacuum getting to the valve, but apparenty vacuum getting to some part, I can't remember what he said.
Bottom line is that he said it could be a broken line under the dash or a bad temp switch. I'm wondering if anyone has had this problem or even knows what I'm talking about. He closed the valve with a wire tie, so of course I can't turn on the heat if I need to.
Any ideas?
Many if not most Ranger temperature selection problems can be attributed to the blend door or the electronic blend door actuator (BDA). Check out this link:

It looks like some of the after market stuff will do what tying the valve open does. Prevent water from going through the heater core when the control is on more that just AC MAX. Is that what I'm reading?
Anyway, thanks for the help. We just got back from being out for a while and my wife was staying in the truck while I did some running around, and it was staying quite cool. I'm sort of paraniod now that I won't get the real cool I'm getting now if I cut that wire tie.
Thanks,
