ok first off this isn't a ford but it's the only place i know where i can get some help.... i have a 1969 C/50 truck with a 350 V8 and a Rochester 2bbl. it's been sitting for a while (like 2yrs) i got it fresh gas and blew out the lines, blah blah blah... and i fire it up and it runs for about 30 seconds or so then floods itself out. it has a manual choke and i've used trucks w/ manual choke with no problems.... it has a valve deal or somethin on the top where a rod touches that comes off the linkage to this valve that seems to be rubber or somethin like that. gass pours out that valve when it starts to die. is this the accelerator pump???? or what
From your description it sounds like your carb float is sticking. When gas sits in a carb & fuel system it forms gum & varnish and make a mess!!! Change your needle and seat clean the carb and be sure to check the float , sometimes when they set they absorb fuel and are no good. Have A Good Day------ Hotwrench
Yup, sounds like a stuck/sunk float, I'd pull the carb and do a full rebuild on it with a new float for peace of mind. Not that hard of a job, and you'll be able to get all that varnish out of the fuel passages.
thanks guys i took your advice and just did a full rebuild on it today put it back on and fired right up. i took degreaser to the entire carb and washed everything... it wasn't that bad only took me about an hour and a half to pull it and rebuild it and pt it back on and fire it.... Pretty simple carb actually, I just need to tune the carb now and i'm good.
