Carb size for a 460

I bought a 77 F350 with a rebuilt 460 to put in my 66 F250,the motor has a edelbrock performer manifold and a edelbrock 750CFM carb,it seems to run a little rich and I want to tune it while its still in the donor truck so should a smaller carb be bought or just tune the 750 carb. Jeff

I run a 750 Edelbrock on my 460 and it runs fine. Try putting in larger metering rods and see how it runs. Also, how do the plugs look? If they are slightly brown, it should be fine the way it is.

You can change Rods and jets and be fine..... theyre easy and kinda fun to tinker with anyway

I have a 750 CFM on a 429 and it was quite rich, had to lean it out quite a bit.

if that 460 is stock...you can make it run fine with the 750, but you can make it run better with carb with smaller venturi's, like a 600...better throttle response etc..

The 750 on my 460 was running rich to so I took the 70 jets out and replaced them with 67s. It stopped running rich but seems alittle sluggish now.

Which Edelbrock do you have?

Which 750 do you have? There's two main configurations:

The #1407 750 cfm (Performance tuned) carb. calls for .113 Primary Jets and .071X.047 Rods. For one step leaner at "cruise", change the Rods to .073X.047. Keep the same Primary Jets.

The #1411 750 cfm (Economy tuned) carb. calls for .110 Primary Jets and a .075X.047 Rods. For one step leaner at "cruise", change the Primary Jets to a .107 and the Rods to a .073X.037.

Don't change the Secondary Jets unless you're having problems at wide open throttle.

The tuning matrixes for these two carburators is on my web site. Click the links below to check them out (You'll need Adobe Acrobat to view them).

Hope this helps.
