Ok I am instering in knowing about multiple carb set ups. Can any give me any advice on these? I know some about carbs but not about multiple carbs. Any good books? any advice on them? about tuning? etc??? thanks
There are many different ways that this is done, with 2 4BBL carbs, three 2BBLs, multiple sidedraft carbs, and on and on. Do you have a specific system in mind?
The most common system on high performance cars was the tri-power, basically three 2BBL carbs. Most systems had a choke only on the center carb, and all three operated at the same time. Some systems were progressive, with the center opening first, and the outer two acting as secondaries and only opening when you started to get on it. The most common aftermarket system is dual 4BBL carbs, one behind the other. Usually, these both are worked at the same time, each with it's own choke and secondary system. There used to be a kit, it was called the cross-ram or something along those lines, that put a large 4BBL over the valve cover on each side, feeding the opposite bank. Not very common, and not very friendly to drive on the street.
Many foreign cars, especially those with inline six cylinder engines, used dual side-draft carbs, on a split one piece intake. Both carbs worked at the same time. Old Jaguars used 6 sidedraft carbs on the v12 engines, hanging way out over the cylinder head on one side, feeding the cylinders on the other side.
