Hi, I am currently trying to replace my head gasket, but I can not seem to
get the intake maniforld removed. I have a 97 4.0 vin X I am following the book and have removed everything the books says. My next step is to lift off the manifold, but it doesn't lift off. There seems to be something holding on to it.
If anyone could give some advice, I would be greatful. Thanks.
Thing I had trouble with w/ my 97 4.0 engine X, tube from EGR to upper (plastic) manifold. I couldn't get it off so I just yanked the upper intake off. The tube is curved towards the front of the engine and it was fun getting it off and back in place. Lube up the O-ring real good and smack it w/your hand to seat it when you replace it. The valve covers have to be removed to remove the lower intake, the manifold is under them. Once that was done it pretty much lifts off.
Good luck.....
You are correct, I found that out this morning. I reached the point of it is coming off or breaking off. With luck, I did notice that it curves and I could remove it without breaking it. I am down to the heads, and here the funny part. I just exchanged my 1/2 torque for a 3/4, but the T-55 I need to remove the head bolts is a 1/2. I wish I had a second car. Thanks.
