dpfe code
i have a 96 bronco with a 351 in it.my cel is on and the code it brings up is for a dpfe. my problem is the truck seems to stumble a tiny bit when i hold a constant throtle psoition.it doesnt happen when i accelrate or let off the throtle.i put the truck in park and brought the rpm's up to 1500 and held it steady.the rpms would fall to about 1000-1200 rpms without me moving my foot on the accelerator and then go back up to 1500.it would do this steadily. could this be a symptom of a bad dpfe ?

I am in the process of tracing these exact same symptoms on my 93. I have yet to run the KOER test to get the codes. Interesting information. I will get going on this if it ever stops pouring here.

My 88 does the same exact thing as twisted explained in neutral. The only sensors on my whole truck I have not replaced is the IAC ans MAP, but I don't think they are the problem. I have not really looked into it too deep because I do not fell it at all while in drive, just neutral. Let us know if you figure anything out Greystreak.

the code that came up pointed to the dpfe. i took of the hose to it and one was clogged. cleaned it out and cleared the computer and the cel came back about a day later. after all this happened my fuel pump went so i had that replaced,now im trying to get this figured out.my brotherin law says he has a dpfe (owns his own shop) and he thinks its that.

The DPFE will cause all sorts of idle and driveability problems. Same thing happened on my 96. The DPFE replaces the EGR position sensor on the older Broncs, as it senses actual downstream EGR flow (using differential pressure method) from the tube and sends that info to the computer. Based on that information the computer adjusts several other parameters. Replace the unit and both hoses, just make sure you hook them up right or you will continue to have problems.

well i put a new one in and the cel is not coming back on and the surge is gone.so far so good.
ford changed the dpfe sensor too. it is now plastic unlike the oem aluminum part.
also the hoses from ford is a joke price wise.this is not a joke. the short ruber hose was 6.99 the longer rubber hose (1/4"longer) is $59.99!!!!!! i told the counter guy that there has to be some kind of problem.he told me "nope, thats fords price". so needless to say i stuck with the oem ones i had. they werent cracked or rotted.
