Allright folks...here's a seemingly simple one that has me waiting to put on the timing set on my 351w rebuild.
The pioneer plug set that I got for this rebuild has some extra plugs. There is one extra 3/8 cup style plug that I know I don't need because the plug bore behind the distributor on my 351w was threaded and there was a plug to match in the set. Now the issue: There is an additional plug that is about 5/8 in diameter in the set. Do I need this plug? None of the literature I reserached mentions it. My engine is a standard rotation, 1979 OE 351w. I don't remember taking a plug of this size out but my machinist is painfully slow so it has been a while. I just don't want to button the job up before I make sure that I didn't miss something simple. Hope someone knows why this "extra" plug is in the kit. Thanks in advance for all the good answers!
It looks like there is a plug of this size at the top of the lifter valley where the intake manifold meets the block. I never removed this plug and I guess my machinist didn't either. I am guessing that this is where this plug is supposed to go unless someone knows otherwise.
Because different years require different plugs (some engines have more than others). They usually put extras in the kits. THey also figure you're gonna bung one up in the process making it useless.
