Hey I was just wondering, does anyone know if it's legal to have an open DVD monitor in the dash, WHILE driving the vehicle. Some friend of mine told me he thinks it's illegal in California
not sure but hey if you get pulled over and it is, then just tell him thats what controls the stereo. It sounds kinda illegal because it could distract the driver from paying attention to the road, and california is kinda picky about that stuff, hey is it true you guys cant use fuzz busters (radar detectors).
This site might have some answers http://www.legal-database.com/
haha!! No we can't! It's illegal to have those radar detectors in the cars here. To what state do I have to move, to use it legally?? LOL
But a lot of people use them anyways! Helps a lot!! Got my dad out of trouble one time!! haha!!
It is illegal. They can give you a ticket if it broadcasts a station or a dvd. Most indash units will not work till you are parked. They can also bust you for having it in the line of view.
thx grease monkey! I have my windows tinted though and hope they won't see it. I think most of the aftermarket units work thoug when your're driving. I think only the factory ones don't work during the ride.
I live in Indiana, obviously its not illegal at all and the guys in our state legislature were cool enough to allow us to have Radar jammers as well, theyre the coolest things in the wolrd. I dont know how cops cant be more angry than they seem to be.
Install a rear remote camera and tell them it's part of your mirror system. I am installing one to use the Aux input to mine.
If anybody knows how to make the screen split, so I can install a front one too let me know. Right now I have to use a A/B switch. I want to use the HD to record the video.
The only other solution is to use the Latop with dual monitor out function.
It is not ilegal to have a display monitoring your system within view of the driver. It is also not ilegal for that display to view broadcasts or DVD's. It is ilegal to view broadcasts or dvd's while the vehicle is in motion. That is why a lot, if not all, manufacturers that make in dash monitors have some sort of brake or parking brake interface interlock to view the video feed only while stopped.
