Anybody know where I can get the synchronizers replaced in southern New Mexico? I'm in the Dona Ana county area. The synchros on 1, 3, and reverse are heavenly worn and 2 is completely worn. The shops I've asked either want to replace the transmission or can't do it.
Those are going to require a complete tear down of the main shaft that equals a complete rebuild. Did that my self before during covid to save a grand.
2500 for a rebuilt one plus shipping was more than my budget at the time.
Hope others chime in with a shop for you, only been there once like 26 years ago
Start with the basics. Verify no air in the hydraulics. Fresh pedal box bushings and the guy on the swing arm.
Going into reverse is a pain. Clutch in, shift to fifth, keep clutch down, drop to neutral, keep clutch down, then drop into reverse. Works way easier. Even with crapped out dogs on the slider and gear.
I cannot see how first is worn unless trying to go from R to 1 over and over moving slowly. Possible, but not common.
Did the shop split the case and actually measure syncro ring clearance? My guess never have driven one and do not know how to shift them. TOTALLY different than small automobile manual boxes and does NOT shift fast.

agreed. They might be expecting to shift like a Miata, and it just won’t be like that. Pedal box bushing and hiem joint first then see how it does. It might also need a fluid change. If you go that route, it takes a Dex/Merc ATF. These things are getting several miles on them so rebuilds are more common but don’t jump to it until you get the basics sorted out.

what kind of clutch did they put in it?
I had a large improvement in my second gear synchro when I switched to Redline ATF.
Does the clutch engage low or mid pedal?
If low then the bushings and Heim joint can help.
If there is any drag on clutch when shifting, it wont be happy and feel like synchros are gone

Though my synchros are also bad (grinding sometimes into 3rd, 4th) for 10 years and difficulty in putting it in reverse, my clutch disengagement was about 1/4” off the floor, I replaced the master and slave and now have great pedal it will only grind slightly when down shifting into 3 & 4. I did the heim joint also a number of years ago.

The shop opened it up. The guy use to work for Ford back in the day. He also mentioned the 5th to reverse trick.
The truck had the heim joint mod when I bought it. It wasn't secured properly so the clutch wouldn't fully engage when shifting. I'm guessing this led to the synchros getting worn out.

I can't recall but it's equivalent to the stock one. They did change it to a single mass.
