aod will not shift out of first

I have a 1986 F150 4x4 w Aod I cannot get it to shift out of first it does have park neutral and reverse but moving from gear to gear is not smooth nice or pretty moving to reverse and drive the whole truck surges and it feels like the tranny is grabbing because if I put it into gear and don't immediately give it gas the truck will stall or drop super low in the rev range but if i apply brake and blip the throttle it will "unstick" I cannot find any issues with the tranny I have cleaned the valve body and the governor as well as the Oring trick the truck sat for an unknown amount of time in a field before I got it and the previous owner did a hack swap and put a 74 mustang block in it but never finished I checked the port on the driver's side behind the tv cable bracket for pressure but it maxes out my 80 psi gauge it has brand new fluid and filter to the correct level I'm out of ideas and if i cannot figure it out the tranny will be going to the scrap yard
