'00 tranny questions...

'00 tranny questions...
I posted this on the transmission forum and had 0 replies. So I'll try over here:
"I have an '00 Expedition 5.4L 2WD. The tranny code is "E". This week I changed the fluid and filter (30k miles). There were a couple things I noticed that didn't seem quite right and I was hoping someone could provide some info. No real problems, just curious.
Everything I have seen says this tranny should have a pan drain plug installed from the factory. I definately don't have one on the pan, only on the torque converter. Any ideas why there is no plug?
When I dropped the pan, I expected to find the plastic plug from manufacturing floating around. I have seen this in all Fords that I have owned previously. Any ideas why it wouldn't be there? The tranny has not been worked on to my knowledge. I bought the truck new and it has only been to the dealer for small warranty items and a couple of recalls.

JG - You might be on to something with the 4x4 having the drain plug. Anyone else with a 4R100A tranny have a plug in a 2wd?
Don - I think your truck would have a 4R70W tranny (with the 4.6/no tow pkg) so I wouldn't expect it to have a plug in the tranny pan.
No ideas on the plastic plug missing from the pan? I found one on every other Ford truck that I have owned (this is my 4th).
