We had our first snow of the year. This morning I moved the truck and engaged 4WD with no problem.Wife used truck locally all day in AWD with no problem.I used it later and couldn't get transfer case to engage.I tried stopping, putting in neutral, turning off truck and starting in 4WD,tried AWD,4HI,4LO.In 4LO it felt different but front axle still did not turn. All of my other trucks have lever, not switch for 4WD.Is this transfer case vacuum operated,I don't know what to look for. Thanks for any help,Dave.
Although I've never taken the system apart, AFAIK, it's just an electric motor attached to a switch. Same as the lever systems, except here you have a fancy-schmancy motor to do the lever pulling for you.
There are known issues with the 4WD switches; there's a link below to a PDF document that shows how to remedy the switch situation. If it isn't the switch, I've heard that the motor is relatively easy to replace.
If anybody has more specific/correct info, please chime in. I'm goin' by the seat of my pants here...
