1987 cavalier convertible RS with the optional 2.8 MPI v-6 It's a cute car and cheap price. Definitely not me! Hopefully this doesn't end up being a keeper lol. Flip the white walls in and I think it will look a lot better
What are your initial plans for it? Flip?
Or are you turning into a Chevy man!
I'm reliving part of my youth. Even though I always had a 56 ford, I worked at the Pontiac dealership. This is what they call a "J" body same as a sunbird. I rebuilt a lot of 125c automatic transmissions back in the day!
probably just tinker with and service it and clean it and cruise it once or twice till someone else "has to have it" then it will move along downward the road. I was actually looking at a 1932 ford 5 window coupe but it was way too much money and this was sitting in the corner.
Kevin I chuckled when I saw that Cavalier. I had to rent one for a business trip in about 1987 or 1988 and was late to catch a flight in Chicago. I left Madison, WI and had my foot on the floor the whole way to O'Hare. Including at-speed reverse-to-forward gear changes and jumping curbs at speed to be in the correct lane at the terminal. It was a 2 1/2 hour drive that I did in about 90 minutes. That transmission and engine howled the whole drive, the brakes smelled and it wouldn't go fully into Park after my gear shifting antics. Lost a plastic wheel cover too. I shut off the engine in neutral, set the handbrake left the key in it and parked it in the rental drop off line.
I made the flight with a minute to spare before the cabin door closed. Fully expected to get a bill in the mail from Budget or Alamo or whoever I rented it from for excessive wear and abuse. Never heard from them. It probably was just a normal day in the life of a rental car back then.
I was in my early 20's and soon afterward the rental car companies changed the rules and you had to be 25 years old or pay an extra surcharge. For good reason. The industry probably correlated car wear and damage to age of driver. I contributed a data point to that study in that Cavalier.

p.s. You should drive it around wearing a popped-collar polo, stonewashed jeans while your wife has thick rim glasses and big hair.
p.p.s. It looks in real nice shape and the whitewalls complete the age-correct look.
A buddy of mine and his dad made a side job business out of swapping Cadillac V6 motors into those Fieros. Made an already sporty little car into a real ripper!
Tom, as the saying goes: "Nothing parties like a rental..." lol

the 2.8 isn't too shabby but the 3800 super charged really make these run. I always like the 2.8 as it was a great solid engine.
