Stock (mostly) hp/torque numbers were impressive out of the gate (15% higher than stock ratings). After modding, interesting their camshaft / header , etc. updates increased hp (18% from baseline) and moved/widened the torque curve, but effectively no increase in the torque number. Would be a fun motor in the swap application intended.

Here's the YouTube version. I have YouTube premium so zero ads. That website above is ridiculous with the ads.

Crazy the kind of gross horsepower the 7.3 makes in stock form while silky smooth and quiet, and stock exhaust manifolds. Heads and combustion chambers must have left little room for improvement.

Good comparison of what one of the best factory configured 460's did in gross hp, then what it takes to get a 460 to where the 7.3 went with some basic bolt-ons.

I do not think this is a "high compression" 10.5:1 460 as richard claims, looking at the pistons they look like later model dished pistons and its probably closer to 9-9.5:1 in reality which would explain being down from the 365 gross rating the factory gave.

I don't see how that 460 could have been 10:1. I had a 1971 Chevelle SS 454 that had ~10:1 compression and that thing made 450 crazy HP.

460 heads leave alot to be desired in the flow department without porting.
Being designed to fit in Lincoln really killed flow on exhaust side.

Even the CJ/SCJ and PI heads arent that much better.

Was yours the 11.25:1 LS6? That 454 in 70-71 was about peak, those motors had a pretty lumpy cam too, like 242 @.050? And their heads flowed much better than ford's.
Check out the flow numbers in the video. Ford's 460 heads only flows in the 120-130 range @.600 lift stock exhaust side. your doing good to get them to 180ish with mild port job.
Ford had a smaller cam even in their 429 CJ/SCJ. Hell even their boss 429 with good flowing heads the cam timing was the same as the CJ/SCJ
Things have come a long way

Yep, Ford missed the boat with the 460 for high performance heads. Jon Kasse fixed that though.

Yes it was a LS6. My only experience with Fords 460 engines were the fuel injected trucks. Reliable as an anvil, drank gas like crazy, good torque down low.

Having bought an '03 V10 Excursion recently, I know something about the gallons per mile. But I wonder what this Godzilla 7.3 would get in an Excursion swap? Same with that modified 600hp version?
Is the Godzilla with a new wiring harness and trans a viable option for the EX?

The problem with a 7.3 and different trans is the stand alone trqns controller for the 7.3 is real expensive. The 10R140 is huge and doesn't fit in much.

Doesn't it use same pattern as coyote 5.0? Thus 6r80 would work?
