I just want to share my experience with the 7.3 gas engine. I’ve got three 2022 Ford trucks with the 7.3 gas engine. Oil changes done every 5,000 miles using AMSOIL top of the line oil.
Truck 1: Engine failure at 94,000 miles
Truck 2: Engine failure at 79,000 miles
Truck 3: So far no problems yet.
I would personally not buy another Ford truck with the 7.3 gas engine. It’s been a total nightmare. Hope this helps you guys make the proper decision.
That kills me! "Knocking sound", don't know why so replace engine, teardown and still don't know why. I hope they sent both engines to Ford for evaluation!
When I did warranty work, if there was metal flakes anywhere [trans, engine, diff, etc] it was a complete replacement. Gone are the days where there are mechanics that tear down and fix things. Better to replace the entire assembly vs the hassles of the repair and the potential of the comeback [along with finger pointing on who is at fault]. It is in the interest of customer satisfaction that assemblies get replaced.
At least, that was my experience.
Just because you changed the oil regularly does not mean something might have broken.
Thanks for sharing even though its not good news. Ive got four 7.3L right now and one is already on its 2nd engine. Purchased an early 2021 and got a little over 30k on it before it went down. That truck has around 50k on the replacement engine now. Other three trucks are 2024 and barely have 20k on them yet.
Waited a few years before we bought the other three hoping Ford worked out the issues. What models are yours and what are the idle hours?
Replaced under warranty at 94k and 79k miles? So you have an extended warranty? This doesn't really help. What model, what do these trucks live their life doing? Are these driven by the same guy everyday or are they slip seat miles?
