Does anyone have experience with retrofitting the rack and pinion steering on a 1953 . Front axle dropped 3" I now have power steering installed so I got the pump
Are you talking about using the original style front straight axel and adding rack and pinion steering to that? Not saying it can not be done but I have never seen it before that I can remember.
I did install a Mustang 2 front suspension with rack and pinion
If you want power steering with a straight axel I would use the Toyota style box
It has only been a few years since I renovated the frame incl. Motor mount and I will be sorry to have to cut the frame again. Is it possible to find a Victoria crovn front bridge or are they all gone and what is the price of one
I've seen it done, but not with any good results. R&P steering geometry is all wrong for a straight axle. I am extremely pleased with my Toyota setup but the boxes and mounts are now scarce, There is a brand new manufactured reasonably priced PS box now available that is a simple bolt in swap, no adapter necessary. Highly recommended.
When i bought and imported my first 56 from the USA it had a rack and pinion setup bolted to the axle .
Although it drove ok , i immediately removed it as no way in hell would it meet our engineering requirements here in Aus .
Wish i had taken pics of it for you , but believe me it's not really a path to go down as there are much safer ways to add power steering these days .
