Wow! 2017 Escape trans fluid.
I picked up a 2017 Escape. It has 50,000 miles on it . Transmission had a shudder to it at 25mph. I did a drain out 4.5 quarts fluid was black. refill drive and drain and refill fluid is still dark !!. I am going to do the fluid change again in the spring. I would highly recommend a fluid exchange every 30,000 miles or sooner

Since Ford recommends a trans fluid change at 150,000 miles and yours is black at 50K, I would have to wonder just what else is going on inside. Did the previous owner grossly overheat the trans (does the vehicle have a hitch?) or is something expensive getting ready to bite you? If you flush it all out, I would check again in another 5K and see what you've got. It might pay right now to send a trans fluid sample off to a lab (Blackstone, Titan Labs etc.) to see if they can point you to the problem.
