I just saw a video a guy did where he removed the butterfly valve that controls the EGR flow into the engine on a 2015. I mean, he unbolted the plate that controls the flow of intake from the EGR. It leaves all the rest of the system connected electrically and unaltered. He said it doesn't throw a check engine light on a stock 6.7 provided you keep it plugged in. Google searches bring back tons of stuff were people are removing the EGR/tuning and blocking it off etc...but I can't find(so far) anyone else that just remove the butterfly valve-plate from the throttle body. I've got a 2017 w/6.7 - I don't want to delete it or tune it because I'll eventually trade it in...but I'm curious if this mod is actually a thing w/any of the 6.7 engines - or even my 2017. I know the whole intake flow changed several times during various 6.7 generations.
My assumption is that it's too good to be true....or there would be lots more info about it.
Any thoughts on what the effect would have been? He was claiming 3 mph improvement just by removing the plate. It makes sense if the valve restricts flow through the normal intake forcing more through the EGR system.
I don't doubt that it wouldn't work though...just wondering what the flaw in the idea is?
