Using Snap-On Lumy/Mag for setting timing on gassers
I got my hands on a Snap-On Lumy/Mag2 engine timing meter. I got it for timing my diesel, but it also supposedly works with Gas engines as well using the magnetic sensor. I thought to myself, what a convenient way to get around the issue of the damper shifting over time on these old Fords and throwing off the timing marks. I have the 300 EFI i6 on my 87 and I've been trying to figure out how to use this tool to check timing.... but I cannot for the life of me figure out where the magnetic sensor is supposed to go. The instructions just say that there is an access port on gas engines that you insert the sensor into slowly until the screen starts showing an RPM readout. I've seen a couple comments on some forums from my internet research about a "tube" on the passenger side that was used by the factory for setting timing, which I'm guessing is what I'm looking for but I'll be a monkey's uncle if I can find the darn thing!
Does anyone know what I'm talking about or if I'm just crazy and these engines don't have this kind of port? Or was it just the old carb versions that had it?? I'm at a loss but if I could use this thing to check my timing I'd be a happy camper instead of using the old screwdriver down the cylinder rough-guess TDC measurement. This seems like it would be more precise. The manual specifies the offset to be used for Ford inline 6's so I feel like it must be possible!!
Thanks in advance for any input!
