I have a 68 f100 with a 360FE bolted to a 4 speed with a granny low. Do any of yall know the exact name of this trans? Also ( this may be a really dumb question) but can u use the same housing from my trans and put the internals of a toploader 4 speed in my old housing?
Here's another FTE thread dealing with a question very similar to yours. Take a minute to read through all the posts because I think your question is answered: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...anny-gear.html
Nope. The toploader internals don't swap. But you could put the toploader itself into your truck. It's been done and a site search should link you to the information.
But this swap won't gain much of anything. You'll lose the granni first. But, in my experience, granni is of very limited use.

Also (this may be a really dumb question) but can u use the same housing from my trans and put the internals of a toploader 4 speed in my old housing? No. 4 speed top loader only installed in 1963 and later cars, it's entirely different than a truck 4 speed.
1963/79: TRANS code stamped on the 2nd line of the Warranty Plate, riveted to the left door face below the latch.
A = New Process 435 4 speed // F = Borg-Warner T-18 4 speed // P = Borg-Warner T-19 4 speed (not installed in F100/150, 1973 & later F350 2WD, F250 beginning in 1983).
Certification Label replaced Warranty Plate in 1980, it's glued to the left door face below the latch.
TRANS code is impossible to read. You decode it since I gave you the info, it will be either A or F. It's stamped on the 2nd line at the far right before the AXLE code (also impossible to read).
Warranty Plates were not painted and when this truck was repainted red (originally blue/white), whoever did it painted the plate, and now the paint has chipped off in places.
Okay, so it's an NP435, if it's original. As others have said, the internals don't interchange. Wasn't sure if that's what you were asking.
If the NP shifts okay, you might want to keep it until you're ready to yank the 360 out for a rebuild or replace.
How does it shift? What kind of shape is the 360 in?
The 360 has been bored cammed and rebuilt. Holley 4 barrel carb, long tube headers, dual exhaust. Motor is basically new. Trans is okay i just want something to make it feel less of a truck transmission. Its a hot rod so i would like to put a toploader 4 speed in it.
