53 f100 starter solenoid wiring?

We have this 53 f100 that has been switched to 12v. The truck owner had a guy come in and get it running. He hooked up the solenoid this way in the picture. When I raised it up just now I found the extra wire not hooked up. Checking wiring diagrams and not really getting a clear picture on what side that wire should be on. Anyone confirm for me?

On my truck the post that has nothng on it in your pic goes to the Ballast resistor. You will have to trace the wire to see where it attaches on the other end.

That black wire should be a ground. Don't know why it isn't connected to a mounting bolt. Better trace it out hand-over-hand.

That was what I was thinking it being a ground. This truck has all new wiring on it except for the battery terminals and starter wire.

You ought to get new starter cables too. It might look good on the outside but could be corroded on the inside depending on how old they are.
