Hey everyone! I inherited my dad's 1999 F350 2WD 7.3L several years back. It has just turned 241k and I'm having issues with the fuel gauge. It has just started reading full all the time - even after 450+ miles on a tank. The truck also runs very rough at about 1100 rpm, regardless of what gear I'm in (6 spd man.) I'm guessing that it is the fuel sending unit to fix the bad readings on the gauge, but I'm wondering if replacing the fuel pump would help the rough running. I change the fuel filter and oil religiously. I also get no codes on my code reader.
Trouble is, every parts place I look shows about 6-12 different part numbers for the same part that supposedly fit my truck. Dad bought it in San Diego new in 1999. Does this mean that California Emissions would come into play? If so, how could I find out which part is the correct part for my vehicle? Any advice would be much appreciated...
Here’s the pump you need, if your assembly is good just get the lone pump. If you do drop the tank do the Hutch and Harpoon mods at that time. Remove the intake screens, add a Racor Filter outside the tank... The stock set up allows the system to suck air which can give you a rough idle.
These trucks are not OBD Compliant, so depending on how you’re trying to read codes they may not show up. Forscan or Torque Pro will read codes.
