I have my intake and everything else off to replace gaskets, sensors, vac lines, injectors, etc... and am wondering about the IMRC vanes in the intake. The rods rotate, but not super easily, like I would expect (How much drag should they have?). I'm guessing that there is 166,000 miles worth of crud built up around the rods. (I've cleaned the intake thoroughly in a parts washer and with some brake cleaner and simple green.)
So, has anyone removed the screws holding the vanes on, and pulled the rods to clean them up? I assume the screws are red-loctited in place and should break free with some heat, since I don't see any signs of crimping on the back side where they protrude from the rod.
I wouldn't bother with taking them apart. Too much hassle and risk of screws coming out. Use some carb cleaner and a old toothbrush to clean the gunk off.
