6 volt reducer and instrument gauges

I see in all the searches that everyone eliminates the bus bar for all the gauges and runs a resistor to each gauge.
is there too much voltage drop across all three gauges in series to keep the bus bar and run one voltage reducer?

The “Runtz” type voltage reducers only have enough current capacity to operate one gauge apiece and that’s why you’ve seen them wired without the buss bars. If you use a solid state voltage reducer with more capacity, then it is no problem to retain the buss bars. You need a reducer that can supply probably a minimum of 2 amps.

You might want to have a look at this recent thread:

The post by Mixer man is applicable to what it sounds like you want to do. And incidentally, the gauges are wired in parallel with the bus bars applied like this - not series.

L7806 is a true CVR, much, much cheaper than anything out there, and provides a true and constant 6V to the gagues....less than $0.15 each, so may as well run one for each gauge - they'll handle about 1A each.
