Instrument Panel Wiring

Hey Guys - I am new to at this and looking for some insight. I just purchased a '77 Ford F150. Per the vin number, it was originally built with a 351W, but the guy I bought it from told me that it was a 460 engine. I can't find any identifying plates on the engine or under the hood. Can anyone help me to identify exactly what size engine it is? Any quick tips or tricks?

Also, I am replacing the chassis wiring harness and am redoing the instrument panel cluster. I have the original instrument panel connector but am having a difficult time finding the right open barrel terminal to fit. Is there a specific one I need, or can I use whatever I can get to fit?

Thanks for your help -

Look at the valve cover bolts (one cover only):

5 bolts: 332/352/360/361/390/391/406/410/427/428 (FE engine)
6 bolts: 221/260/289/302/351W

7 bolts: 429/460

8 bolts: 351C/351M/400

Can't help you on the terminals but I think some parts stores would carry 'em?

1981 was the first year that the 351W was available in F150/350 & Bronco. But it was installed in Econolines beginning in 1975.

4th digit of the VIN is the engine code.

H = 1975/79 E100/350 351W; 1977/79 F100/350 & 1978/79 Bronco 351M

A = 1975/79 E250/350 460.

J = 1973/79 F100/350 460.

351W = 6 valve cover bolts per side; 460 has 7; 351M (and 400) has 8.

1976/79 F100/350; 1976/80 Econoline & 1978/79 Bronco use a different instrument cluster back & printed circuit board with Oil/Amp GAUGES than they do with Oil/Amp WARNING LAMPS.
