I have a 77 F-100, 2-wheel drive, 302 with 3 on the tree. I am battling a leak at the fuel sender flange. I am using a fuel sender unit, gasket, and lock ring from Ecklers.
I was careful to turn the lock ring to full engagement so I am struggling to determine why the leak. (Only when tank is really full to I get the drip, drip, drip.) (I was also careful to make sure the gasket was properly seated.)
The Ecklers gasket and lock ring look a little flimsy, so I am wondering about finding original stuff. (The shop that I wanted to do the RENU process to my original tank through out the original gasket and lock ring when they could not fix my original tank.) I have a new tank.
This F-100 has the 18 gallon tank aft of the rear axle.
Bill,
I try not to take your ability to dig up part numbers and let us know what dealers might have stock on hand. Much obliged if you can work that magic for this gasket and lock ring.
Yes I have, so I always use a new gasket, and little solvent pruff RTV. Also make sure your mating surfaces are clean, and the lock ring is straight and not bent, same for the tank ring area. Did you do the tab bend to lock it trick?
The gasket is bought from Bronco Graveyard was square-cornered, and almost seemed too big, as you really had to press the sender down to get the lock ring seated. No leaks!
Thanks guys! I will make good use of your info. I debated putting some sealer on the gasket, and now I will. I also knew that someone, somewhere would have an alternative to the dinky little gasket that came with my Eckler's fuel sender.
Thanks!
Ran into the same problem - the good news is that it only leaks when the tank is full. Another alternative for you - a #229 O-ring is the right size. Be
sure to lube the ring with something like grease or petroleum jelly so if the sending unit flange shifts, it won't distort and allow the leak to recur.
