What kind of rear bumper do you have?

My 78 F250 originally came with with a piainted step bumper, but I put a chrome step from a 92-96 on it about 15 years ago. It looked good, but was a bit tight on the ends. I backed into a pole about 5 years ago and bent one end just enough to push it into the sheet metal below the light. I'm looking at other alternatives.

I actually like the original form fitting style, but they seem to be rare. At least 90% of dents have some version of a step. Yes, they are more practical, but since the invention of the tow hitch, real bumpers aren't really as necessary. Were the formed ones removed at the dealership, or was it a factory option?

I believe most came WITHOUT a rear bumper? Unless special ordered, like a contour style and the step bumper was put on at the dealership.

Many dealers in my area installed bumpers with their dealer info stamped in. Even my 81 came without a rear factory bumper. A tag mount on the bed was all it had.

I have a re-pop chrome step bumper to replace the painted version originally supplied. I like the "step" function of the bumper for getting in and out even though I do have a good hitch installed underneath.

My replacement bumper is from LMC. I re-used originally installed mount straps and had to cut out a small quarter moon shape at the ends of the step part to clear the bed corner sheetmetal. It is form fitting. Chrome plating has held up well.

My 4wd 73 F100 has a Bronco contour bumper.. had to redrill the holes and modify the brackets to fit a pickup. Another Bronco donated a Class III, frame-mounted hitch.

Depending on the location, many Ford stock step bumpers were ordered by the dealers for their dealer stock trucks. It was that way in Idaho and eastern Oregon. My dad's 77 F-150 came with a Ford step bumper already installed not as a special order like dad's 72 F-100.

I have a "Lund" roll pan on the rear of mine. Just a toy don't do much work with it any more. There used to be a pic in my gallery but it looks like the gallery is gone! -Ed

Found the gallery and here is a pic of the roll pan.

C4TZ-17906-A Painted & C4TZ-17906-B Chrome .. Contoured Rear Bumpers-Use with 33 1/2" width between the inner frame rails behind the cab. Chrome reproduced.

1964/66 F100/250 2WD; 1966 F100 4WD; 1967/72 F100/350; 1973/77 F250 4WD (High Boys); 1973/79 F350 on the 140" wheelbase.

D3TZ-17906-A Chrome & D3TZ-17906-B Painted .. Contoured Rear Bumpers-Use with 37 1/2" width between the inner frame rails behind the cab. Chrome reproduced.

1973/79 F100/350 except as noted above & 1978/79 Bronco.

Due to the stone shield between the bumper and body, 1978/79 Bronco's used different contour rear bumper brackets than these 1973/79 F100/350 Stylesides.

Seems that around here (IA) in the early 70's when trucks were still used as trucks that the rear bumper wasn't standard, maybe it was a half ton verses 3/4 ton thing. Remember following pickups with the license plate and lamp up under the left rear of the truck. My truck has a rusted out contoured Louvereen? step. I did pick up a bent up contured with brackets in the junkyard for 25.

I found an old pic... the blue truck has a older Mr Pickup brand on it and a "got it some where" drop style on ol silver.

Setting in a fellow FTE members shop, it looks like a nice reproduced step bumper on High Roller and Earthquake is a reproduced one also? I think anyway, but who cares it's awesome!
