Timing

What do you guys running timing at. Mine is set at 6°( or 8, cannot remember, whichever was specified under hood). Engine runs fantastic. Starts super easy. Pull strong thru rpms. And the but is it wants to die 1/2 time when come to a stop. Starts right up no problem. Could idle speed need increasing since I retarded the timing.FYI, I am a real rookie at this

It ran fine at the 10° it was at and did not stall

300 1bbl yfa 4spd no emissions equipment

I believe that 10° BTDC is the proper setting.

Set the timing wherever YOUR engine likes to run. Usually anywhere between 6*-10* is good for a starting point.

^^^ This. Depends on how the truck is used. If you're not routinely hauling loads of gravel set it up to take as much timing advance as it will stand just short of any ping or detonation. It will run cooler and get better mileage, etc. Check for difficulty starting when hot.

Do you have a throttle dashpot on your carb linkage. Those were used to cure the problem you described. They look about the size of a checker with a threaded stud in the middle of it.

Will time it back to 10°. The heaviest work it will see is my big area and a riding mower.

Throttle dashpot??

On the rear of the YFA between the carb body and the throttle linkage; will have a single-wire electrical connection on the fender side. One of those set-once-at-tuneup-forget-forever items.

I forgot that some were electric. Earlier ones were a dashpot. Right on
