Hi, So for the past several months my Temp, Fuel and Oil gages either read High, Low or just about right and all at the same time. I did a lot researcher on the cause and it seems to point to the instrument voltage regulator is going out. I found one at the JY and it seemed to work ok for a little while and it then it started to flake out again so its time to try something else out. I found on google a guy that made one using an adjustable step down regulator so I ordered the part Amazon.
I received the voltage regulator a couple of days ago and found time to solder on the leds. First I took a 9V battery socket and cut it in half. Then I soldered the Black wire male socket on the VIN post, then soldered the Red wire female post on the Vout post. Last I soldered a wire on for the ground and put a ring terminal on the end. Now the colors are wrong when you use a 9V plug that has the wire already connected, what is important is that you put the male and female sockets in the right place. Today is a half day for my daughter so I half to stop now, hopefully I can install it tonight or in the morning.
I used a power supply to adjust the voltage to 5.5 volts.
This morning I was able to install my new custom IVR and so far so good, all of the gauges point about were they should, not the temp gauge reading hot when the engine is only 170 degrees. If this works I can finally trust my fuel gauge!
I used some 3m double stick tape to attach it and placed some tape on the leds for piece of mind.
I drove the truck all day and the gauges have seem to have stabilized and read the correct values or as close as stock gauges can. I count this as a win!

Nice Work! My temp gauge always reads just over cold. Some day I am going to take a look at it, but I have no idea where to start. I will probably replace the circuit board and the instrument cluster bucket at the same time. Any advice?
Well first off is it just your temp gauge that is not reading right? If so it's probably not your regulator because it will affect the temp, fuel and oil gauge. I would take an inferior red thermometer ( Harbor Freight has them for $30) and check to see what temp your upper radiator hose is reading, maybe you are running cold. If your not running cold start with changing your temp sending unit in the intake. If you are running cold change your thermostat it might be stuck open.
Hey EP145, looks like you are in AZ as well? What part of town? I'm out in San Tan Valley.
How's the voltage regulator working? Any reason you adjusted to 5.5v vs 5.0v?
Thanks!
Brad
Hi,
Sorry for the late response I haven't been on the site for awhile, I'm in central Phoenix. The VR has been working great if I remember I adjusted it to 5.5 to bring the gages to a more normal reading.
