Hey all. I recently returned from picking up my excursion 1200 miles away. It did great on the trip. No leaks at all the last three days First night home and I woke up to a leak. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet because it is 8 degrees out right now. This might be the first time the truck has seen cold like this. Any of you have any suggestions of what it could be. I plugged it in last night for the first time. The leak looks to becoming from the front Could it be a result of that? I'm a novice so just looking for help. 01 7.3 140k

There are SEVERAL fluids that it takes to move a truck. It might be VERY HELPFUL to ID what fluid has escaped.

Hi watty1010 congrats on getting your Ex home! I'm tracking an oil leak on my 7.3 as well but I'll share what I've learned and been helped with so far.
I see you mention it coming from the front of the motor. I know it's cold out outside at 8 degrees but if you could take a peek under the truck that would help pinpoint possible locations. If it's coming down the front side I think you may need to take a look at the hpop(high pressure oil pump). The fittings on the lines there have a tendency to back off over time. Another point on the hpop is the "non-serviceable" plug on the bottom of it. http://www.riffraffdiesel.com/serviceable-long-threaded-hpop-plug/ the plug in this link will take care of that potential leak point.
If, however, when you look underneath the truck and leak appears to be coming from the weep hole between the transmission and the oil pan there are at least 2 potential leak points. The first is the o rings on the turbo pedestal. The other one would be the EBPV...it's another common leak point on out 7.3. That involves either plugging the the spot on your pedestal where that ebpv rod attaches and I think removing the rod....or you can do like I chose to and replace the pedestal with the non ebpv one. http://www.riffraffdiesel.com/garrett-non-ebpv-blank-pedestal-99-5-03/
Anyways...that's my limited knowledge on what it possibly could be. I'm sure one of the other guys will be along and can refine and add to or fix what I've found so far.
If this is indeed the 1st time this truck has seen single digit temps then it could be that simple and the others could be loose as well. Hand tight, not Hulk tight.
Looks like somebody replaced the factory spring clamp with a worm drive clamp.
Possibly because it was leaking and they thought more clamping was going to fix it.
If I had to guess I would say a crack in the plastic outlet of the radiator.

Maybe they just replaced the hose and clamps. Did not bother with the factory clamps.
Either way, if it was mine I would take the oppertunity to do some maintence and back flush the system and change to ELC coolant, install new hoses and switch back to a spring clamp.
Before replacing the radiator, have a look further up. The degas bottles tend to crack along the bottom and coolant will run down the radiator on that side of the truck. It could be as simple as replacing that bottle. Such was the case on my Ex.
Good responses so far for you Watty. The radiators have plastic caps on the top and bottom with plastic inlet and outlet. They do crack after as many years as we have on our trucks. Mine cracked on top. Leaked fluid EVERYWHERE while pulling a buddy's 5th wheel. I went with an all aluminum replacement so I would not have to ever worry about it again. Like kcb said, check the degas bottle for cracks on the bottom first.
If you will keep the green coolant, you will need to be diligent about checking it periodically with the test strips. Many of us have switched to the red ELC (CAT/EC-1 rated) coolant that does not need test strips. Many threads on that in the 7.3L forum.
