Well, with some tools you can remove them, but it's not a quick release system as fas as I know. But if you're going to transport stuff, you can fold them down and then "kneel" them so they're the same height as the 3rd row when it's folded. There's a black pull strap in the front for this purpose. If you have a seat in the middle, there's a similar black pull strap on that one to fold it as well.
