The other day my seatbelt light and chime started going off every time you turn the key on. It's a 2002 Expedition. It dings 25 times every 30-40 seconds for around 5 minutes. Highly annoying. I've tried the seatbelt alarm shutoff procedures, connecting all the seatbelt a in the car, and looking for the box that makes the sound to unplug it. I'm lost. Can't find anything anywhere on the issue and all the people asking where the box is get the answer on how to disable the alarm.
Just to confirm, are these the steps you followed?
The BeltMinder feature can be deactivated/activated by performing the following procedure:
Before following the procedure, make sure that:
- the parking brake is set
- the gearshift is in P (Park) (automatic transmission)
- the ignition switch is in the OFF position
- all vehicle doors are closed
- the driver’s safety belt is unbuckled
- the parklamps/headlamps are in OFF position (If vehicle is equipped with Autolamps, this will not affect the procedure.)
---------------------------------------------------------
1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN (or ON) position. (DO NOT START THE ENGINE)
2. Wait until the safety belt warning light turns off. (Approximately 1–2 minutes)
- Steps 3–5 must be completed within 60 seconds or the procedure will have to be repeated.
3. Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending with the safety belt unbuckled. This can be done before or during BeltMinder warning activation.
4. Turn on the parklamps/headlamps, turn off the parklamps/headlamps.
5. Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending with the safety belt unbuckled.
- After step 5 the safety belt warning light will be turned on for three seconds.
6. Within seven seconds of the safety belt warning light turning off, buckle then unbuckle the safety belt.
- This will disable BeltMinder if it is currently enabled, or enable BeltMinder if it is currently disabled.
7. Confirmation of disabling BeltMinder is provided by flashing the safety belt warning light four times per second for three seconds.
8. Confirmation of enabling BeltMinder is provided by flashing the safety belt warning light four times per second for three seconds, followed by three seconds with the safety belt warning light off, then followed by flashing the safety belt warning light four times per second for three
seconds again.
9. After receiving confirmation, the deactivation/activation procedure is complete.
Then start with the driver's seat belt switch or it's circuit, it might not be showing the seat belt as being buckled. The switch in the driver's seat belt is open when buckled and closed when not. When closed (unbuckled) it sends a ground to the GEM. You cannot remove the chime module because there isn't a separate one for the seat belt. The whole warning chime system is built into the GEM.
No it's not. It's not a regular seatbelt chime. That one is slow and only five or six dings. It has also been disabled. There is a malfunction somewhere. Read the comments before making your own. Checking the circuit sounds plausible but like I said. It's not the regular belt alarm.
Allor, thanks for the idea. I had installed a fire extinguisher and the screw touched a wire. Projectsho89, once again. That isn't in the manual. The chime was not a programmed response that ford added. Btw, those pages you referred to are on the airbag system. Condescending remarks instead of actually pointing out your theory is not helpful.
