Hood spring issue

Hey guys I'm new to this forum. I have a 53 f 100. I bought new hinges from Dennis Carpenter and for the life of me can't get the hood to stay down at the back when it is closed. I have adjusted the latch at the front all the way to the front and to the back like I have seen in other post to fix this problem it doesn't seem to work I know there is probably a million posts to fix this but don't seem to be able to find anything when I search.
Someone please help.

Thanks in advance.

You need to grease the hinges. Every pivot and spring and work it into the joints. This will help a ton.

If you study the way that the hinge works, you will find that raising the hinge actually lowers the hood and pulls the rear of the hood more snug toward the cab. Also, rotating the hinge plate can make a difference. You could try installing the hood with the hinges on, but the springs out and the hinge plate nuts are loose. When you like the way that the metal all aligns, tighten up the hinge plate nuts, remove the hood from the hinge arms, re-install the springs, and then bolt the hood back on. This is easier said than done, especially if you are working alone. The final result should be a decent fit. Don't forget to have the cowl lacing and rubber hood bumpers in place during all this. Good luck.

hood fit

Sorry I don't have recent experience with the 53 Ford truck hood hinges but I do know from working in a body shop in the 60s that to get the back of the hood lower we would raise the hood higher and then retighten the hinges. Then when the hood was closed the back would be lower. Hope this helps. Patrick

I have the same problem, I have adjusted and re-adjusted, lubed and re-lubed, removed and re-installed the hood and every nut and bolt on the hinge contraption and the back will not stay down. If someone has an answer I would also like to hear it. At this point I've convinced myself it's just part of the charm owning an old Ford pickup.

Hood hinge adjustment is a study in counter-intuitive actions. The more you change it like it 'should' work - the more frustrated you'll get. The mechanical actions are confusing to most of us mortals.
