Just bought a good decent running ford f3. Looking for best choices to upgrade braking system and swap out gear jammer 4 spd with something a little easier. I am under influence that a diff from a 67-72 ford 3/4 will bolt right in?????
Thank you
You can actually go 57-72, as these all should have a Dana 60 in them. I'm putting a Dana 60 from a 61 F250 in mine. However, in 66 or so, they came out with the 3.54 gears, which are the best gears a Dana 60 can get for cruising without an overdrive. New ring and pinion sets are about $260 on eBay with all new bearings and seals for the Dana 60.
I took a 80 semi floating Dana and narrowed the perches, 3.55 ratio (cheap) worked great, put a 460 w/ 4sp overdrive also from 78 lot's go>>>>> Just my idea of power

How does the overall width compare to the original? I thought they got wider in '73.. I really don't care for tires sticking out the fenders..
Ya know, you you made me think on that one So I double checked, it is the same width backing plate to plate, I just took my grinder w/ cutting wheel cut the welds and moved to fit. Perfect! Also took the front spindles from the same truck and put them on the old axle, reamed out the bores about .040 and used new king pins and made spacers between the thrust brg.

Beleive it or not I've probably scrapped 20 of those diffs over the years.......now I need one and I don't have any. No worries up here in bc there is hundreds of rusty gold old iron kicking around. Anyways any ideas on a trans swap. I am looking to stay as original as possible, except upgrade to brakes and ratio. It has original 4 speed gear jammer
