Bear Claw door latches on '51 F1 placement

Bear Claw door latches on '51 F1 placement

I'm stumped!
Has anyone installed Auto lock Bear claw locks in a '48 - '52 F1? I've searched the threads with no luck.

My question is: Where on the door do you locate the bear claw latch and how does the external door handle attach to it?

I need to get the placement right before I start making holes and keep scratching my head over this one.

All input is appreciated

I don't know if these pictures will help. I shaved my door handles but did install bear claws.

I installed bear claws in approximately the same spot. Also shaved my outer door handles after several failed attempts to get the original handle to work.

Trique Manufacturing offers an Altman latch kit that works with your external handles.

Anything that says "Auto Loc" on it I steer clear of.

Why?

I bought a set a while back and plan to use it. Hate to waist money but if its defective I don't want to use it. Thanks Ron

Autolok is a cheap Chinese knock off and the company now also sells stuff under the name Johnny Law and other names. Maybe some items will work but door latches is not an area I want a failure.

Thanks Truckeemtnfords, I did not know that they are Chinese knock offs... But then again most stuff now a days are huh? . I will look into Altmans. Thanks.

Thanks for the responses, you guys are great! I have a clue where to start now but I want to retain outer door handle function if possible, any ideas?
